What does it mean to be an innovative school? An innovative school has: • a framework that allows individuals to become passionate about issues that are meaningful for them • a willingness to think differently • the capacity to involve a wide community of stakeholders and hear all their voices • an understanding that risk and failure are part of the process. • a philosophy of continuous improvement • discuss the responses to the toolkit self assessment and highlight areas of difference and why these might be
Task 1: Identifying stakeholders To help your visions become successful projects, you need to gather ideas from people with as many different outlooks as possible. • List the different groups of people who may have an interest in your school and how it progresses. Look at the example on the next slide and complete the stakeholder landscape template • Discuss ways you can ensure each stakeholder group can have their opinions heard
Task 2: Engaging stakeholders • To engage the identified stakeholders successfully, it is important to consider what their role will be in supporting your project • In small groups, decide which inclusion practice is best for each stakeholder group you have identified. (See the next slide for different stakeholder roles) • As a whole group discuss any differences of opinions • Gain school-wide agreement as to which Stakeholders will be engaged and how.
Task 3: Stakeholder communication • Each stakeholder role requires different forms of communication from the school and different inputs and outputs from the stakeholder. • The next slide shows the different expectations for each stakeholder group • Using your stakeholder landscape, discuss in small groups what communication and expectations you will need to consider to ensure that your relationship with your stakeholders benefits the success of your project • These discussions will form the basis of your stakeholder engagement plan • Groups feed back on their engagement plans
Task 4: Timetabling the Innovative Schools Workshop Program • Prepare a timetable for the workshops (see example in the next slide) • Agree the attendees list for each workshop • Add to the timetable what pre-workshop activities need to be carried out and what outputs will be generated from each workshop and how will they be circulated in time to gain feedback. • Add your workshop timetable to your school profile page, blog site or One Note notebook
