Children’s Art School: Art-Rita Investment opportunity in children’s creativity Riitta Marttinen, +358 40 568 7883 Potential collaboration Partners 2007
Project: Children’s Art School • Background • The presentation is written in English in case a receiving partner wishes to elaborate the proposal within their international organisation • Our society is successful in developing children to be structured, logical and analytical but less successful when it comes to enabling children to become creative and conceptual • “Art-Rita” is an art school in Helsinki for young children in age range 5-15. Art-Rita provides the children an opportunity to develop their artistic side regardless of talent level. The teaching/guidance is lead by Mrs Riitta Marttinen • The art school has 50 participating children. Most of the children have started at the age of 5 and many continues year after year. The Art School started 1994 and is an example of a successful artistic activity for children • Group size is small (5-8 children/group), education 1,5h/week. A child receives teaching/guidance 48h a year. The teaching sessions are built around themes • The activity requires funding due to premises, labour costs, administration and material • The school does not receive noteworthy external funding. The activity is currently financed by participating fees (currently 660€ per child per year). The private funding makes the operationally vulnerable as the participation fluctuates from year to year despite a cost structure which is basically fixed. The participation fee excludes children from low-income families. “Long term planning” is a challenge and influences the overall quality and service level towards the children. As a consequence, The Art School needs additional funding to secure and develop the activities
Project: Children’s Art School • Aim • To improve the financial situation of the art school • To improve the over all activity for the current group of children • To enlarge the operation and to enable additional 5-10 children lacking financial resources to currently participate • To provide space for the art works to be seen among a wider audience • To collect 10 companies that are willing to support the art school over a 1-2 year period and in best case create a concept that secures the activity or this art school (and others) over longer time period
Project: Children’s Art School • The targeted funding • 10 companies supporting the activity with 2.000€ annually will increase the funding by 20.000€, an increase by 60%. • The 20.000€ contribution would secure the activity as well as provide further development opportunities • Press coverage / PR goodwill • The art school will make an effort to receive press coverage if so desired by the supporting organisations
Project: Children’s Art School • Heidrick & Struggles’ experiences • The Heidrick & Struggles’ office in Helsinki has sponsored the art school 2006 • We have 5 art works at exposure in our office • We have had numerous excellent “ice breaker” discussions with our clients and candidates • The drawings/paintings have provided a lot of smiles and reactions among clients and employees. Our traditional art collection has become almost invisible for our visitors • In addition to the good cause the art collection has changed the office look to a more vivid and warmer environment • Replacing the “exhibition” at our the office twice a year keeps the office more dynamic as well • Heidrick & Struggles will continue to support the art school 2007
Project: Children’s Art School • The opportunity for your company • To have 5-10 art works (amount decided by the sponsor) at your company’s premises for public exposure • The art works are automatically changed twice a year by the art school if so desired • Desired financial support is 2.000 €
Project: Children’s Art School • Alternative collaboration forms • All suggestions aiming to improve the collaboration between the art school and the corporate world are naturally welcomed • Next step: Vernissage • The next children’s exhibition will take place __.__.2007 starting at __:__ at the art school’s premises in Kruununhaka. The address is Kristianinkatu 11. • Please contact Riitta Marttinen (040 568 7883) for an appointment. • Alternatively you are most welcomed to Heidrick’s office to see an example of an office “gallery”
