2. Appleid – What is it and what does it do? • Your appleid is your username for your apple products. It allows you to sync all your Apple products through iCloud, and is used to download apps from the app store. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

3. Buttons with Purpose • Closing apps with the home button: • Open an app then tap the home button. Double press the home button to open up the “open apps” bar. Then hold your finger on the app, and press the X to close the app. • Split keyboard: • If you prefer typing on a split keyboard, turn the iPad sideways and then with 2 fingers swipe to the outside edge of the iPad. Reverse this to go back to the normal keyboard. • Hidden Keys: • Some of the keyboard keys are hidden on the iPad. For example, hold down the ! key or the ? key. • Typing Numbers: • Hit the .?123 key to toggle typing numbers. To type one number then go back to the ABC keyboard, hold your finger on the .?123 key then slide it to the number you want, and then release. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

4. Buttons with Purpose (Cont.) • Deleting apps: You can delete apps by holding your finger on the app you want to delete then hitting the X that comes up. You can then hit the Home button to return to using your iPad. (This may be restricted.) • Power off: To turn your iPad on or off hold down the power button. • Screenshot: You can take a picture of whatever is displayed on the iPad screen by holding the home button and the power button at the same time. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

5. Sorting out Folders • You can create folders on the iPad to help sort your apps. • Tab on an app and hold your finger on it. Then drag it to another app with the same type of category/purpose. You can then name the folder and save. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

6. Connecting to Wifi • Tap the settings menu (looks like gears), then go to Wifi. The current local Wifi access points will load. You will then select the wireless network that you wish to join. (You may be required to enter a password/passkey.) • Trouble connecting? If you are entering the correct passcode and the internet still won’t load: • Try turning Wifi off then back on again. • Turn the iPad off then back on. 7. Connecting to Wifi (Cont.) • To connect to the wireless network you will need to click on the network called GISD-BYOD. You will be asked for your username and password. These are the same as what you use to log in on a district computer. • If you cannot log in, you can use the GUEST network with restricted access. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

8. Apple and Flash • Not every website will load on your iPad. • Apple decided not to support Flash on their iOS devices. Sometimes this causes websites to not display correctly, if at all. • If you notice this problem, check your iPad by trying to go to a different website that does not have flash. 9. Using Safari on iOS • Open Safari, type in a website to go to such as www.greenvilleisd.com. • Functions within Safari: • Forward/Back • Search • Add page/Close page • Bookmarks • Ways to share: • Reading list, Home Screen, Email, Tweet, Print iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

10. The iPad Camera • Can be used for photos/videos. • Can turn on/off the front camera • Browse photos • Add photo grid for better photo composition. • Point the camera at the object you would like to take a picture of and click the camera button. If the image is too dark/light click on the screen to a different area to help meter the light contrast and adjust the camera. (Very useful for when outside or inside a darker room.) iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

11. iPad for Notes • Your iPad comes with a notes app. You can use this app to type notes and if needed email those notes to yourself. • There are many other note-taking apps. A great assignment/discussion might be to let your students try out one (free) notes app and then demonstrate it for the class. They could then choose which one they wanted to use for notes and assignments. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

12. iPad for Planning • With the calendar app on your iPad you can keep up with your meetings. Students can use it to track assignment due dates. • To add events simply click the plus sign and then type in the details of the event. • You can also set up your iPad to sync with your Outlook or Google calendars. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

13. Maps Apps • Your iPad comes with a map application. Within this application you will see a corner that looks like it is folded. • Swipe that corner and you will see some additional map options. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

14. Discuss • Take some time to discuss the apps/tools that you have so far. • Talk about how these could be used in your classrooms, and share some tools what you might already know of that I have not talked about. • Share out what was discussed. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

15. Installing Apps – App Store • To install apps, you must first find the app that you want to install from the App store. Once you have found the app you are looking for you need to click install, and enter your password for your appleid. • The app should then download, and will be ready for use. • App Store • At the bottom of the App store there are tabs. • Click the tab that says purchased. Here you can go back and re-download apps that have been downloaded previously. • If you have more than one iOS device you can use this feature to download apps on your other iOS devices. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

16. Deleting Apps • To delete an app you click and hold on the app. The app will then begin to move, and should have a red X over the app. • Click the red X, and select yes to delete the app. • Deleting apps will be restricted on student iPads. A passcode must be entered before deleting the apps. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

17. NearPod App • This app allows you to present information to your students from the app itself on each iPad. • You can create images or PDF’s and have them uploaded to the NearPod server. Once uploaded they can be published and used in your classroom. • The app allows you to also quiz your students with immediate feedback on the topic. Additionally, you can use the app to poll your class on a topic. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

18. ITunes U • ITunes U is an education app that allows teachers to log in to a website and create lesson plans that load into the ITunes U app. • Using this app teachers can load their full lesson plans including text, movies, audio, PDFs, iBooks, ePub books, iOS apps, and Weblinks into the students Itunes U app. This allows the teacher to teach straight from the app, and allows the students to access this information while at home. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD

19. Printing from the iPad • Printing from the iPad: • Requires an Air Print enabled printer OR an app that allows you to print from a network device. (Most are paid apps.) • Solution: You can typically email yourself anything you would need to print. Then you can print it from your computer when available. iPads In your Classroom - Greenville ISD
