  1. Issues with Diane Pretty

  2. Contravention of human rights by not allowing husband to help her commit suicide. • She said after decision “The Law has taken away my rights”

  3. Why should the law be able to say it is OK to say that is acceptable for people to die in some circumstances i.e. suicide is not a crime • But then say assisted suicide at the explicit request of someone is illegal

  4. It would be a slippery slope – people pressurised into doing something they might really not want to do.

  5. Issue of how do we treat people who are suffering from a devastating illness if they really do not want to go on. • There are cases when palliative care may not be effective.

  6. Dr Anne Turner • Should people have the choice to decide the circumstances of their death and decide when it is right for them?

  7. Can someone who cannot legally do something in one country be able to go to another to legally do the identical thing- • should she have been prevented from travelling to Switzerland • Should her children be found guilty of a crime once they returned to Britain?

  8. Should the Law be changed to avoid terminally ill people having to travel abroad if they are so determined to end their lives?
