  2. What’s in wastewater? Waste • human feces and urine • food from sinks • soaps and other cleaning agents • runoff from streets and lawns • industrial discharges

  3. What’s in wastewater? Water • lots of it! • Urinal - 1 gallon per flush • Toilet - 4 gallons per flush • Shower - 20 gallons per use • Overall - 55 gal/person/day

  4. It’s mostly water! There are about 500 parts of waste in every 1 million parts of wastewater; that’s 500 ppm. H2O It’s like trying to find this class at a sold out Packers game!

  6. This is really not something I’ve given a lot of thought to. Where does it go when you flush the toilet?

  8. It’s a 24/7 thing! The Portage Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant was built in 1991-93 and cost$20M. On average, the plant receives 2.8 MGD of raw wastewater with peak flows >10 MGD. How much? If there are 7.48 gallons in 1 ft3, how many days of sewage flow would it take to fill Hancock H.S. to the roof?

  9. It’s a 24/7 thing! The Portage Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant was built in 1991-93 and cost$20M. On average, the plant receives 2.8 MGD of raw wastewater with peak flows >10 MGD. How much? The average daily flow to the Portage Lake Treatment Plant would fill the EERC to the roof in 4 days.

  12. And where does itgo from here? Treated effluent from the Portage Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant is discharged to Portage Lake … an important recreational resource for all of us.
