  1. FIRE Future Internet Research and Experimentation At FIA/Ghent www.ict-fire.eu Timo Lahnalampi Dimes Association timo.lahnalampi(at)dimes.fi "The views expressed in this presentation are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Commission"

  2. Basic information • Event: Future Internet Conference Week • Venue: International Convention Center (ICC) Ghent, Belgium • Dates: 13 – 17 December 2010 • Event web: http://www.fi-week.eu/ • The “Future Internet Conference Week” will offer a program of back-to-back conferences, meetings and workshops related to the different topics of interest to the organizations involved and their stakeholders http://www.ict-fire.eu

  3. Route from the railway station Ghent St-Pieters to ICC How to get to Ghent: http://www.visitgent.be/eCache/VGG/3/518.dmdfbGFuZz1FTg.html

  4. FIRE Theme at FIA/Ghent • FIRE Facility is real – Let’s use it! • Demo personnel has FIRE T-shirts & caps • Material: • New Commissionbrochure • New FIRE facilitybrochure http://www.ict-fire.eu

  5. FIRE at FIA Exhibition • Demonstrations: • Onelab • Crew • Ecode • Selfnet • PII • Other • FIRESTATION info kiosk • Fireball stand

  6. Exhibition: FIRE stands O4 PII to be added after stand nr. is known P5 C2 O1 O3 R3 R4 http://www.fi-week.eu/exhibition/

  7. FIRE Demonstrations at FIA Ghent • Onelab/R4 • Developing Future Internet Testbeds:A demonstration of the OneLab offer, including the presentation of the facility’s three main testbeds: PlanetLab Europe, the NITOS wireless testbed and the ETOMIC measurement infrastructure. The demonstration will also include an introduction to the new monitoring tool portal supported by OneLab, T-Rex

  8. FIRE Demonstrations at FIA Ghent • CREW/O4: • The main target of FP7-CREW (www.crew-project.eu) is to establish an open federated test platform, which facilitates experimentally-driven research on advanced spectrum sensing. During the demonstration, two parts of the CREW federation are shown:the IBBT heterogeneous ISM testbed for Wi-Fi and  wireless sensor experiments, and the IMEC advanced spectrum sensing solution.

  9. FIRE Demonstrations at FIA Ghent • ECODE/O1: • The ECODE FP7 project researches cognitive routing functions in future networks. We demonstrate machine learning augmented OSPF routing which infers SRLGs from network failure history. Inferred SRLGs are used to improve OSPF convergence and recovery times during subsequent (multiple) network failures.

  10. FIRE Demonstrations at FIA Ghent • ECODE/O3: • Setting up realistic network experiments on a physical testbed is a manual and time consuming task that includes the installation and configuration of dozens of servers and the emulation of realistic user behaviour. We demonstrate a management framework that automates these steps as much as possible. The demonstration will show the configuration of network experiments on the iLab.t Virtual Wall testbed facility, applied to a use case of the FP7 STREP ECODE project.

  11. FIRE Demonstrations at FIA Ghent • Self-NET: • Future Internet network management systems are expected to incorporate self-x capabilities in order to tackle the increased management needs that cannot be addressed through human intervention. Towards this end, Self-NET developed a self-management framework based on the introduction of cognitive capabilities in network elements. In this presentation, the experimentation platform for “Coverage and Capacity Optimization of Self-managed Future Internet Wireless Network”, incorporating the self-management framework of Self-NET, is presented.

  12. FIRE Demonstrations at FIA Ghent • Panlab - PII: • Text here

  13. FIRE related sessions at FIA Ghent • 13 December: • IPv6 Curriculum study • 14 December: • IPv6 - The way forward • FIRE session in the Living Labs part of the conference

  14. FIRE related sessions at FIA Ghent • 15 December: FIRE Conference • FIRE portfolio, offering and challenge • Views from the experimental facilities projects on how to stimulate use and populate their facilities (1st Open Calls from TEFIS, BonFIRE and Ofelia) • Existing services offered by Call 2 testbed providers (examples of concrete usae cases) • Practical and economic issues related to sustainability and usage of experimentation infrastructures • FIRE next steps : towards and Internet Science

  15. FIRE related sessions at FIA Ghent • 17 December: • Discussions on common technical issues • Promotion of the usage of the FIRE facilities • Promotion of the Open Calls • The full programme for the FIA-Ghent week: • http://www.ict-fire.eu/events/eventview/article/future-internet-conference-week.html

  16. Information of Organizations

  17. FIRE • The FIRE organization focuses on enabling infrastructures for the internet applications of the future. New internet architectures, protocols and services need early experimentation and testing in large-scale environments • The Future Internet Research and Experimentation – FIRE – Initiative is promoting the concept of experimentally-driven research, combining visionary academic research with the wide-scale testing and experimentation that is required for industry • FIRE works to create a dynamic, sustainable, large scale European Experimental Facility, which is constructed by gradually connecting and federating existing and upcoming testbeds for Future Internet technologies. http://www.ict-fire.eu

  18. FIA - Future Internet Assembly • The Future Internet Assembly brings together European researchers to work jointly on technical and non-technical issues in the developments of the Future Internet. More than 95 projects, investing Euro 600 million euros and mobilizing a community of some 300 experts, are active in shaping the European Future Internet vision http://fi-ghent.fi-week.eu/

  19. ENoLL • ENoLL organization focuses on enabling infrastructures for the internet applications of the future • New internet architectures, protocols and services need early experimentation and testing in large-scale environments • Living Labs are open innovation environments in real-life settings, in which user-driven innovation is fully realized in the co-creation process of new services, products and societal infrastructures http://livinglabs-ghent.fi-week.eu/

  20. Servicewave • Following its successful editions in 2008 and 2009, ServiceWave will hold its third conference in Ghent. It offers a unique opportunity for academic researchers and industry practitioners to report on groundbreaking research work and to present industrial trends in service oriented computing. With a call for scientific and industry papers, proceedings published by Springer Verlag, workshops, demonstrations and industrial panels, this is a unique venue to be part of the future of the Internet of Services • ServiceWave 2010 is organised by the European Technology Platforms eMobility, EPoSS, ISI, NEM and NESSI, as well as Spanish national platform INES, the IT-Tude community and network of excellence S-Cube with the support of the Paluno Institute and of IBBt as hosting partner. There will also be a number of closed workshops during the conference week http://servicewave.eu/2010/

  21. IPv6 • IPv6 Conference; December 14th 2010 – Ghent, Belgium • The main goals of this conference under the Belgian Presidency organised by The Information Society and Media Directorate General of the European Commission are to: • Evaluate the deployment of IPv6 in Europe as well as globally in the world, • Plan the new actions needed for wider IPv6 adoption, such as encouraging public administration, users and industrial stakeholders to take decisive steps to accelerate the implementation of IPv6 http://ipv6-ghent.fi-week.eu/

  22. Further Information • Future Internet conference week: http://www.fi-week.eu/ • FIRE portal: www.ict-fire.eu The  research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7 2007-2013, ICT objective 1.6) under grant agreement nr. 257439 FIRESTATION.
