Weekly World Watch Andy Walton’s April 9 - 15, 2017 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” (Ezekiel 33:6, New International Version) PRESS SPACE BAR TO CONTINUE To skip the introductory slides and go straight to this weeks developments click here.
What is a Weekly World Watch? The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible. . I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW: • Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. • Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. • Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” • The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” • Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. • Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. BIBLE QUOTE What is in a Weekly World Watch? Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears. News Photo This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. HEADLINE The source of the headline and the date are included. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. EVENT This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me: (andy@weeklyworldwatch.co.uk). Please note that these are personal thoughts and the aim is purely to stimulate Bible study. COMMENT This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version.(Book, chapter, and verse)

“Then at the time of the end, the king of the south will militarily provoke [push] him [Gog]. The king of the north [Russian army] will storm out with chariots, charioteers, and a vast navy. He will invade various lands and sweep through them like a flood To watch a new presentation on the Strike on Syria CLICK HERE Russia raises prospect of war if it is given ultimatum as it mocks Boris Johnson's no-show Daily Telegraph, April 9, 2017 Russia and Iran have threatened military retaliation against the US, accusing Donald Trump of crossing “red lines” by ordering a cruise missile attack on a Syrian air base. The two military allies of Syria said the US bombardment had violated international law and, in a statement, added: “From now on we will respond with force.”The warning came after the Russian embassy in the UK suggested that British and American attempts to deliver an ultimatum to the Kremlin this week could result in a “real war”. Mr Johnson cancelled plans to visit Moscow this week to work on the proposal – which The Daily Telegraph understands will include a tacit offer to Russia to rejoin the G7 if it complies. On Sunday Russia mocked Mr Johnson, saying his refusal to visit was “deplorable” and, in a series of jibes on Twitter, questioned whether he would make a fit wartime lieutenant to the American president. EVENT Events are moving fast. Last week the US attacked the Syrian regime for the first time since the conflict began. Russia has responded furiously warning of war if Trump ever attacks the regime again. Trump responded saying he would attack again if chemical weapons were used. Britain responded by trying to galvanise the G7 to increase sanctions on Putin and his cronies. But the European nations in the G7 would not agree to this and so Britain and the US failed in this attempt. There was a interesting headline in the Times newspaper that said “Britain to push for new sanctions on Putin”. In Biblical terms this would read “The king of the south pushes for new sanctions on Gog”. Which itself is almost exactly what Daniel 11:40 says. Russia is being pushed by the UK to leave Syria. After the push Russia descends into the Middle East / Israel. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Daniel 11:40 NLT)
Damascus has become feeble, and all her people turn to flee. Fear, anguish, and pain have gripped her as they grip a woman in labour. That famous city, a city of joy, will be forsaken! Her young men will fall in the streets and die. Her soldiers will all be killed,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. • Russia, Iran and Syria issue warning to US ABC News, April 14, 2017 Russia, Syria and Iran strongly warned the United States Friday against launching new strikes on Syria and called for an international investigation of the chemical weapons attack there that killed nearly 90 people. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who hosted his Iranian and Syrian counterparts in Moscow, denounced the U.S. missile strikes on Syria as a "flagrant violation" of international law. Additional such actions would entail "grave consequences not only for regional but global security," Lavrov said. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said the meeting sent a "strong message" to Washington. Iran's Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized that the participants agreed that unilateral actions by the U.S. were unacceptable. The U.S. accuses the Syrian government of deliberately launching the deadly chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun on April 4. Russia has alleged that the victims were killed by toxic agents from a rebel chemical arsenal hit by Syrian war planes. EVENT After 6 years of conflict in Syria events may soon reach their conclusion. Over 500,000 people have been killed and millions displaced. The Syrian conflict has impacted the whole world and brought many nations into the same arena of war. We are now on the brink of the two superpowers coming into direct conflict in this land. The Bible makes clear that Syria will come to an end as a nation and Damascus will cease to exist as a city. This must happen BEFORE Russia comes down. The reason is that the ancient king of the north was based in Syria. When Syria comes to an end the mantle of the ancient king of the north passes to an even greater northern power – Russia. Russia then joins forces with Iran (and other nations) and invades Israel…. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Jeremiah 49:24-26 NLT)
Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. • Donald Trump says US-Russia relations may be 'at all-time low' after Syrian chemical attack NBC News, April 13, 2017 President Donald Trump says US-Russian relations "may be at an all-time low", echoing the sentiment of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. The comments came after Mr Tillerson was greeted with a frosty reception when he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and later with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Only weeks ago it appeared Mr Trump — who praised Mr Putin throughout the US election campaign — was poised for a potentially harmonious relationship with Russia unlike many of his predecessors. But any such expectations have crashed into reality amid the nasty back-and-forth over Syria in the wake of the US launching 59 missiles on the country. "It would be wonderful … if NATO and our country could get along with Russia," Mr Trump said during a White House news conference. EVENT COMMENT Trump promised to reset relations with Russia but instead relations are even worse than under Obama! In fact just about everything Trump said in his campaign speeches has been reversed. Either because he has done a U turn or because he just cannot get his policies through congress. This business man with zero political experience has looked increasingly weak and incompetent. However following the strikes in Syria his approval ratings have moved up. War is a drug to powerful men like Trump. He attacks and he can act presidential and everyone listens. The media back his strong stance. He likes the feeling of adulation and power. It is no coincidence that a few days later he orders the use of the most powerful non nuclear bomb in the US arsenal – nick named “the Mother of all bombs”. It was dropped this week on Afghanistan. The message to Russia, Syria and N. Korea is - don’t mess with the US. Nations are preparing for war. BIBLE QUOTE (Joel 3:9-10)
Therefore, be patient,” says the Lord. “Soon I will stand and accuse these evil nations. For I have decided to gather the kingdoms of the earth and pour out my fiercest anger and fury on them. All the earth will be devoured by the fire of my jealousy. • China fears North Korea-US conflict 'at any moment' BBC, April 14, 2017 China has warned that "conflict could break out at any moment" as tension over North Korea increases. Foreign Minister Wang Yi said if war occurred there could be no winner. Mr Wang's comments come as the US voices increasing concern at North Korea's development of nuclear weapons and deploys a Navy carrier group off the Korean peninsula. China, North Korea's only backer, fears conflict could cause the regime to collapse and problems on its border. Mr Wang said: "One has the feeling that a conflict could break out at any moment. "I think that all relevant parties should be highly vigilant with regards to this situation." "We call on all parties to refrain from provoking and threatening each other, whether in words or actions, and not let the situation get to an irreversible and unmanageable stage." EVENT Not only is Trump gearing up for conflict with Syria he is also gearing up for conflict with North Korea. He said this week that he had ordered an “armada” of warships to head to North Korea. North Korea has warned that the world is on the brink of “thermo-nuclear war”. Fears are rising that Pyongyang is planning a test of military hardware that could provoke a response from President Donald Trump. Tensions over the North’s nuclear ambitions escalated further on Friday after reports in the US that Washington was ready to launch a pre-emptive strike, while China called for all sides to pull back from an “irreversible and unmanageable stage”. North Korea is of course another stand off between Russia and the US. Russia backs North Korea. The US backs South Korea. It is another remnant of the Cold War - and like Syria it may soon become a hot war. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Zephaniah 3:8 NLT)
Polish leader welcomes NATO troops, hails 'historic moment' Associated Press, April 13, 2017 EVENT Polish leaders welcomed a new multinational NATO battalion to Poland on Thursday, with the president calling it "a historic moment for my country.” The near-permanent deployment of a NATO battalion under U.S. command marks the first time NATO troops have been placed so close to Russian territory, a step the Kremlin denounces as a threat to its own security. But Polish President Andrzej Duda said the deployment, to Poles, stands as a symbol of liberation and inclusion in the Western democratic world. "It's not an exaggeration to say that generations of Poles have waited for this moment since the end of the Second World War," Duda said in the northeastern town of Orzysz as he addressed the troops and the U.S. and British ambassadors. The battalion of about 1,000 troops is led by the United States, but includes troops from Britain and Romania. Croatian troops are expected to join later. COMMENT And as if Syria and North Korea weren’t enough we also have tension building in eastern Europe. NATO (which essentially is powered by the US) has put troops in Poland this week for the first time since the Second World War. Poland, alarmed by Russia's assertiveness on NATO's eastern flank, has lobbied hard for the stationing of NATO troops on its soil. Russia vowed to take retaliatory measures in May 2016 if NATO deployed more battalions in Poland. 1000 troops may not seem many (and the reality is it is not many!) however these US troops are now very close to the Russia border. They are just 57km south of Russia's Baltic Sea enclave of Kaliningrad. Poland and the Baltic states are the faultline between East and West - or as the Bible says the Dragon and the Beast. Both Dragon and Beast exist at the time of the end. BIBLE QUOTE And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (Revelation 16:13-14)
Google searches for 'World War 3' hits its highest ever Daily Mail, April 12, 2017 EVENT As warships move off the coast of North Korea and cruise missile stay pointed at Syria, you might be forgiven for the odd macabre thought over the past week. And it seems you are not alone, as Google data reveals people have been obsessed with the idea of worldwide conflict in recent days. Searches for 'World War 3' hit their highest level since records started in 2004 this month, according to data brought to light by Infowars. Searches for 'war' and 'nuclear war' are also at their highest level since the start of the year. Google users have also been looking for information on 'Trump war' and 'Syria war' in record-breaking numbers. The spikes came following Trump's shock decision to launch cruise missiles against a Syrian regime airbase last week where Russian troops were stationed. Russia and Iran have since responded by saying the strike crossed a 'red line' adding that if there are any further attacks 'we will respond with force'. COMMENT This has been a remarkable week with tensions increasing rapidly around the world. No one wants to back down. We have Trump and Putin in power – both very similar men – powerful and not used to losing. It is clear from the headline above that people are starting to think that World War 3 might actually happen. They are searching – looking for answers. This is surely part of men’s hearts failing them for fear for looking at events happening in the world. We don’t know how much time there is left but it certainly doesn’t look like very long. We are seeing the gentiles prepare for war. We are seeing the nations line up exactly as prophesied. But let us not forget that Christ could return at anytime - almost certainly before Russia finally does descend into Israel. Either way we need to get ready and be watching with faith as the day is at hand…. BIBLE QUOTE and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (Luke 21:25-26)
