About Comfed • Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Ltd., Patna was established by the State Government in 1983 for the development of dairy development activities in State. • The dairy co-operative network in the State follows three tier structure: • Dairy Co-operative Societies at Village Level • Milk Union at District Level • Milk Federation at State Level
Objectives • To carry out activities for promotion, production, procurement, processingand marketing of milk and milk products • Development and expansion of such other allied activities conducive for the promotion of the Dairy Industry. • Improvement and protection of milch animals and economic betterment of those engaged in milk production.

Milk Procurement • Compound Annual Growth Rate since 1996-97 of 12.7%. • Dairy Plant capacity was a major constraint. Action initiated to expand plant capacities and also install new plants. • Flood has affected milk procurement during 2007-08 and 2008-09. • Emphasis- Correct milk testing and payment. Cooperative Development Programme
