  1. Place Value Rounding

  2. Rounding • Step 1 • Underline the number in the place value in which you are rounding to. . . • Example: Round to the thousands • 35, 741.23

  3. Step 2 • Look at the number to the right of the underlined digit and use the rounding rules • If that digit is “5” or more, the underline digit goes up 1 • If that digit is “4” or less, the underline digit stays the same • Example: Round to the thousands • 35, 741.23 • The 7 tells us to round up and have the answer • Answer = 36,000.00 • Be sure to make all of the numbers to the right of the underlined digit ZEROS!
