  2. Background • Sustainable Development Report for Africa (SDRA) • Reference tool for monitoring and assessing sustainable development in Africa: • Part I: Assessment of the status of Sustainable Development • Part II: Africa’s development challenges

Objectives of the Workshop • Review the proposed set of Sustainable Development Indicators against data availability • Exchange of experiences and best practices in data collection, focusing on the proposed set of sustainable development indicators • Provide capacity building on the concepts of sustainable development indicators as well as statistical concepts, definitions and classifications • Share country experiences in sustainable development data collection, compilation and dissemination, and establish a network of sustainable development experts and statisticians among the pilot countries

Expected outcomes • Better understanding of the concepts and definitions of sustainable development indicators for SDRA V • Quality data on sustainable development indicators from the pilot countries • Developing a relationship between national statistical and sustainable development focal points and promoting the need for an effective mechanism to integrate SDI into national statistics • Acceleration of progress towards national level data collection, including the identification of appropriate channels and methods for data collection

  5. Expected outputs • Workshop report, including the list of finalized set of sustainable development indicators • Agreement on the choice of the headline indicators • Web publications
