The Huge Tube By Geralyn Murray
Luke went to play with Nate one day. Nate played a sweet tune on his flute. He had played the flute in the band till school was out in June.
"Dude, do you want to go out on a tube?" asked Luke. "No way," said Nate. "I don't mean to be rude, but I won’t ride in a kid tube."
"My tube is no kid tube," said Luke, "You won't get stuck. You can use the spare tube from my dad's truck."
"I don't know," said Nate. "Don't try to lure me. I have pure bad luck when I'm in a tube. I get stuck in all the crude spots. I think I'll stay and play my flute."
"Just let me show you this tube. You will want to use it, I'm sure," said Luke. Nate did not have a chance to say no. Luke ran home to get the tube.
To tell the truth, Nate was scared of the swift stream. "I know,” he said. “I can use my swim vest. That will keep me safe."
Luke came back in a flash. "My dad said you can use his tube, and he said there is just one rule: Have fun!" said Luke. “He said to meet us at his truck, and he will get us to the stream. My mom can pick us up.”
Nate saw the huge tube, and a smile lit up his face. "Luke, you rule!" Nate said. "That is one fat tube."
Luke's dad drove the kids to the stream. When the kids got in the tubes, the cool stream cured Nate’s fear.
Nate's tube ride was pure fun. When they came to a slow drift at the end of the stream, Nate said, "Thanks, dude. I can't swim too well, but I think I will get a big tube like this."
The pals jumped off the tubes and left them at the dune while they played in the sand, waiting for Luke's mom to pick them up. "Luke, you are cool” said Nate. “Next time you tell me a thing is fun, I will trust you."
