Counter Claim • Claim= Child soldiers are victims • Counterclaim= Child soldiers are perpetrators Counter Argument Reason-There are people who will tell you that child soldiers are perpetrators because they try to escape and return to the soldiers. Claim Reason Child soldiers are victims because they do not have a family, but the fighters. Evidence C.A.R.try to escape and return to the soldiers Rebuttal- However, being that they are children and were forced into this act/position they cannot be held accountable to the same degree as an adult would. Theywere brainwashed into thinking that the soldiers were their only ‘family’ therefore, of course they want to go back to them and when they escape and return to them they continue to act out violently because it’s the only thing that they’ve been trained to think is normal and acceptable. Ranking= The rebuttal disputes the idea that child soldiers possess the reasoning capacity to know that it is not okay to go back to the fighters, which proves that they are victims.
Counter Argument • My reason is… Child soldiers are victims because they do not have a family, but the fighters. • My counter argument is… There are people who will tell you that child soldiers are perpetrators because they try to escape and return to the soldiers. My evidence to support my counter argument is… They try to escape and return to the soldiers Often they give a false name on capture, they feign stupidity in order to avoid certain tasks, they sneak out of camp at night (Honwana, 2005: 47)They then find a way to rationalize the acts that they have committed. My rebuttal(comeback) for my counter argument is.. However, being that they are children and were forced into this act/position they cannot be held accountable to the same degree as an adult would. Theywere brainwashed into thinking that the soldiers were their only ‘family’ therefore, of course they want to go back to them. They have been trained to act violently and will continue to do so because it’s the only thing that they’ve been trained to think is normal and acceptable. In contrast, the children that have come to realization. My rebuttal is strong/weak/okay because… The rebuttal disputes the idea that child soldiers possess the reasoning capacity to know that it is not okay to go back to the fighters, which proves that they are victims.
