General Information • Group 3 to group 12 • Period 4 to period 7 • 38 transition metals • No set number of valence electrons • Have higher melting and boiling points • Good conductors of heat and electricity • Are malleable and ductile • All elements are a silvery lust color besides copper which is gold. • There is only one liquid transition metal (mercury), all others are solids
Common uses • Used in the making of coins such as nickel, copper, and zinc • Commonly used for making rings, ex: gold, silver, platinum, titanium • Mercury, the only liquid transition metal is used in thermometers • Cobalt, iron , vandium, and chromium have a variety of industrial uses
