  2. How does the effective use of the library correlate to GPA’s among men and women?

  3. Survey = 6 M.C and 1 text Question • Observation • Interview • 10:45-11:45, Monday 10 2014 and 1:20, Friday 14, 2014

  4. How many men and women were surveyed? 64

  5. What floor are you going to / at today?

  6. How much time do you spend in the library weekly?

  7. What is your Cumulative GPA?

  8. How often do you use the library’s additional resources? (writing center, resource desks?)

  9. How focused do you feel when you are at the library?

  10. What subject are you studying today? 5 of the 64 participants stated that they were not here to study. The remaining 59 had varied responses. There seemed to be no particular class that drew masses of students to the library.

  11. Observation Two observations were conducted: One on Monday 10, 2014. we counted the number of men and women entering and leaving the library. The second on Friday 14, 2014 We observed both men and women on floors 2, 3, and 4

  12. Observation of Men to Women in OU Library Entered: Exited: 101 107 77 96

  13. Men Vs. Women’s Focus Observation: Friday around 1:20 Floor: Women=Men Floor: Women>Men Main Floor: Women=Men

  14. Quiet Floor • Man - Listening to music • Woman- Clearly focused in her work

  15. Main and Group Floor • Main: Everyone seemed focused • Group Floor: Women seemed to work more together

  16. Do you think more men or women use the technical desk? “Definitely more women than men.” >

  17. Do you think men use the help desk efficiently, meaning do they tend to ask for help on computer issues of high sophistication or simplistic ones? “Men typically ask about printing or microsoft word products. Sometimes they come asking about major software problems.” *Men = Simple Issues*

  18. Do you think women use the help desk efficiently, meaning do they tend to ask for help on computer issues of high sophistication or simplistic ones? “Women usually ask about Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office products. They also have program issues such as errors in programs like Java Script.” *Women = Bigger issues*

  19. Do you think men or women are more focused in the library second floor from your objective observation? “Both gendersare= in their levels of focus. I wouldn’t say they were extremely focused, but they both definitely get a lot of work done.”

  20. What is something about the technical support that students aren’t aware you provide? “Many people aren’t aware how proficient we are with the hardware problems with computers such as the CD-ROM Drive.”

  21. What does all of this mean? Mens Avg. GPA = 3.125 Women’s Avg. GPA = 3.456 Everyone who answered very focusedhad a GPA >= 3.0

  22. Very focused women 3-4 hrs • Very focused men had a spread of library time • Students with a GPA 1.0-2.9 always were either somewhat focused or just focused.

  23. Very few people came to the library without the intention of being focused. • 59 people entered the library with a specific subject to study.

  24. *The use of resources did not show any general trends in GPA.

  25. Men seemed to be realistic with their GPA. • Women….? • We only admitted people who were entering the library to do the survey

  26. Effectiveness Evaluation • Make GPA intervals more exact around 3.0, eliminating .1 gaps • Been more persistent on accurate GPA • Asked for year of attendance(again GPA) • Surveyed > 100 of each gender • Interviewed people when exiting to better gauge their focus level and time spent
