  3. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” • Maya Angelou (whose real name is Marguerite Johnson) recalls an important relationship that changed her life (personal narrative-style ) • She admires Mrs. Bertha Flowers who explains and proves the importance of the human voice using Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities • Mrs. Flowers is dubbed by Angelou as being “the measure of what a human being can be”

  4. Six-Word Story • Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway was challenged to a bet that he couldn’t write an entire story in just six words. • What was his response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” • What could be the meaning of that? What story do you think is he trying to tell?
