  1. Building self-esteem is probably the single most important thing that we do for our pupils’… ‘I have come to a frightening conclusion. I am the decisive element in the classroom. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher I posses tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. Assessing R-Time • Children enjoy R time. • There is more positive attitude to working together. • There are fewer “squabbles” to sort out. • There is greater respect for each other. • Children demonstrate good manners towards each other. • Children call each other by their given names. • There is more positive attitude to work in the class. • Children openly encourage and praise one another. • Children are more comfortable when working in groups. • Self-esteem has improved in general.
