Condemned By Others Luke 11:31-32
We will be judged by Jesus. • John 5:26-27, Acts 17:30-31, Romans 2:16 • 2 Timothy 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: • 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Jesus mentions others doing some judging. Luke 11:31-32 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.
The Queen of the South (Sheba) 1 Kings 10:1-13 • Sheba was likely a city in what is now Yemen. • Over 1000 miles from Yemen to Jerusalem. • The Queen came to hear Solomon’s wisdom.
Why she will condemn them: • She traveled a great distance to hear truth and wisdom from Solomon. • Those of Jesus’ day had the Son of God present with them and wouldn’t hear him.
Will she condemn us? • If we reject the easy access to God’s word we have today? • 1 Peter 1:10-12 • If we allow minor inconveniences to prevent us from serving God as we should? • James 4:17, Luke 9:57-62
Might others condemn us? • Other Christians? • Overcome great obstacles to serve. • Even non-Christians? • Serve their causes with great zeal and fervor.
The Men of Nineveh,Jonah • Jonah was sent to preach to the Nenevites, Jonah 1:1-2, 3:1-4 • Nineveh was the capitol of Assyria, a super power from 900-607 BC. • Assyria was an enemy of Israel, eventually carrying off the northern kingdom into captivity, 722 BC.
The Men of Nineveh,Jonah • They responded favorably to Jonah’s preaching, Jonah 3:5-9 • God relented because of their repentance, Jonah 3:10
Why they will condemn them: • The Ninevites heeded: • A minor prophet • Sinful and bigoted • A message of damnation and doom • A message without miraculous signs confirming it
Why they will condemn them: • The Israelites rejected: • The Son of God, Matthew 16:16 • The sinless Messiah, Hebrews 4:15 • A message of grace and redemption, Luke 19:10 • A message confirmed with signs and wonders, John 20:30-31
Will they condemn us? • If we reject the message of Christ? John 6:63, John 12:48 • If we refuse to repent at His command? Acts 17:30, 2 Peter 3:9
Will others condemn us? • Other Christians? • Repent when presented the truth. • Even non-Christians? • Respond quickly in obedience to error.
Avoid condemnation. • Believe – John 8:24 • Confess – Matthew 10:32-33 • Repent – Luke 13:3 • Be baptized – Mark 16:16 • Be faithful – Revelation 2:10
