It is located in the Min River (Chinese: 岷江; pinyin: Mínjiāng) in Sichuan province, China, near the capital Chengdu (成都, Chéngdu). It was extended during the Qi Dynasty, and later by Emperor Yangdi of Sui Dynasty during six years of furious construction from 605-610 AD • The canal is 1,795 Km (1,114 miles) long with 24 locks and some 60 bridges. • For more see http://www.chinapage.com/canal.html Short 1 minute video http://www.metacafe.com/watch/407493/chinas_grand_canal_ancient_wonder_still_in_use/
