Michael Phelps Diet • Michael Phelps’s diet consists of 10,000 – 12,000 calories a day. • The positive thing about eating this type of diet is that there is no refined sugars, energy in the form of carbs, protein and fat, and it endorses an active lifestyle. • The negative part of this diet is that its to many calories for the average person to consume. This would be dangerous to our health.
Protein and Carbohydrate loading • Protein loading is when you eat extra amounts of protein to make your muscles bigger. But protein loading does not do that. Exercise makes your muscles bigger. • Carbohydrate loading is when you take in a very low amount of carbohydrates then a large amounts of carbohydrates. This is supposed to load your muscles with glycogen before a long activity. Experts have different views on the eating strategy.
Vitamin Supplements and Salt Tablets • Vitamin Supplements are added to the diet to increase dietary intake. If you take a lot of vitamins it is called megadosing. There is no proof that this will enhance your performance. It can also be harmful to your health. • Teens try salt tablets to improve their performance. Most teens get ten times the amount of salt that is needed. You should replace the salt tablets with a lot of water.
Sports drinks • Sports drinks are said to replace lost electrolytes. An electrolyte is a nutrient that becomes electrically charged when in a solution. You should have balanced electrolytes. Some electrolytes are sodium and potassium. This will keep your heartbeat normal.
