  2. Our Weekly Schedule…kindof

  3. Inquiry Based Learning • Students will derive questions and built their own class learning goals with personalized success criteria • Students will provided with resources to support their discoveries and to support their BIG IDEAS! • Inquiry time will be cross curricular with our Language, Science and Social Studies

  4. Reading • As a class create Learning Goals and success Criteria • Lesson Model: five day cycle whole class mini-lesson, then small groups and work with teacher group. • Students should be reading a novel Monday – Thursday. Fun Fridays it is their choice! • Home Reading Program Entail in Agenda on the Monthly Calendar if they have read. They will get a ticket if reading at home three times a week. Reading together counts!

Writing • As a class create Learning Goals and success Criteria • Workshop Model: whole class mini-lesson, then individual writing and student-teacher conferences • Ninja Notebooks for creative writing • Language Program will be cross curricular with Inquiry based Social Studies and Science units

  6. The Arts • As a class create Learning Goals and Success Criteria • Music Drama Art Dance • We have some wonderful activities planned between both Grade 6 classes for the year • In music class we will learn the recorder this year!

  7. Birthdays • Since our school is an allergy free area please do not send baked goods to class for your child’s birthday. • We will be having a birthday party at the end of the school year to celebrate everyone! If you would like to contribute at this time a notice will be sent home with the kids

  8. Upcoming Field Trip • Over Night Field Trip to Durham Forest Education Center, Uxbridge Ont. • Over night indoor facilities, all food provided, and some extra sleeping gear if needed • Dec. Monday 19th – Tuesday 20th • $75.00/ student makes a • GREATChristmas Gift!

  9. Parent Communication • Please feel free to write a note in your child’s agenda as needed; I check their agendas on a daily basis.   10. Class Rules • Be nice and respectful • Try your very BEST • Be a good listener • Keep your hands, and unkind thoughts to yourself • Encourage others ideas and new groups

  11. Assessment • Clear due dates will be written in student Calendars and Agendas • Progress Reports • Term 1 Report Cards • Term 2 Report Cards • This is and an EQAO Year, May 29th – 30th

  12. Homework • If work is not completed during the provided class time when it will be asked to be completed for homework • A Math Problem of the Week will be handed out each Monday, should be returned to school each Thursday. • Weekly Reading Program

How to help your child at home • Reading: • Read with or to your child, ask your child questions BEFORE, DURING and AFTER reading. • Inquiry: • Encourage your child to ask big questions and pursue finding the answers with resources at home • Math: • Help your child memorize multiplication and divisionfacts. • Go through the math problem solving process with them during their weekly at home question
