Background • Launched in May 2008 as part of HIMSS Foundation • Mission: To be the pre-eminent organization to provide e-health policy education, research and best use examples to key decision-makers, their staff, and other stakeholders within the Capitol Beltway • Purpose: To transform federal e-health policy into practice The Institute is part of the HIMSS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific or educational purposes. 2

3. Executive in Residence ProgramPurpose: To provide opportunities for corporations to promote research into e-health policy • One FTE on loan for 12 months from Apptis Corporation • Mary L. Internship Programs Purpose: To provide educational opportunities for students interested in e-health policy • Since 2004, one dozen students completed HIMSS Government Relations Public Policy Internship • Now, two interns per semester (Fall, Spring, Summer) • Undergraduate or Graduates interested in e-health Public Policy • Self-directed projects with mentoring • Currently: • Angel Rafael Braña, MD, MPH (NOVA Southeastern University) is focused on e-RX policy and Hispanic Caucus Issues • Meha Goyal (Baylor University) is focused on state government relations issues • Collaboration with George Mason University The Institute is part of the HIMSS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific or educational purposes. 12
