City of Fort Collins Energy Policy • Energy Policy • 1.5% energy savings • Reduce system peak by 5% by 2015 / 10% by 2020 • Develop renewable resources to meet the Colorado Renewable Energy Standard • Provide Highly reliable electric service • Comprehensive Plan Policy • Remain at the forefront of Smart Grid technologies and participate in Research and Development partnerships.
DOE awarded $6.3M; local entities contributed $5.1M. City of Fort Collins is project lead. RDSI Background – Fort Collins • Main Goals: • Demonstrate coordinated system of mixed Distributed Energy Resources • Intentional islanding • Reduce peak load by >20% - 30% (>3.5 MW)
SmartGrid: RDSI 2011 Demonstration Summary 14% reduction across 2 feeders (~2.3 MW) & 25% reduction across 1 feeder (~2.0 MW) Maximum Generation: 1,950 kW Dispatchable: gensets Non-dispatchable: PV, steam plant generator Maximum Load Shed: 550 kW
