The Industrial Revolution takes hold in the United States North South Economy based on Agriculture Main elements of the South’s agricultural system were Dependency on one crop (cotton) Slave labor Plantations • Economy based on agriculture (farming) and manufacturing • Main elements of the North’s agricultural system were • small farms • one or two crops or types of livestock raised for sale • little use of slave labor

  4. Tariff of 1816 • This would help aid the growth of American industry by protecting American-made products Placing a tariff on foreign imports would increase the cost of foreign goods. This would help to eliminate their price advantage. The North likes this and the South does not. Why do you think the South did not like this?
