  2. Divide polynomials by monomials and polynomials with various techniques, including synthetic division. MA.912.A.4.4 District School Board of Pasco County

  3. LEQ: How do I divide polynomials? Activator: Factor the following: Divide without using a calculator: District School Board of Pasco County

  4. Answers: District School Board of Pasco County

  5. I do… Factoring to Divide The numerator is a monomial and cannot be factored. The denominator has a GCF and that can be factored. Next, cancel common factors that appear in both the numerator and the denominator. Note: In the answer, you cannot cancel the 15 and the 5. In the denominator, the 5 is part of a term and not a factor. Answer: District School Board of Pasco County

  6. I do… Factoring to Divide This numerator can be factored. This is the difference of perfect squares. The denominator cannot be factored. These two look similar, but are exact opposites. You can factor a -1 out of the denominator. Cancel Simplify: Answer District School Board of Pasco County

  7. I do… Polynomial Long Division +2 is the remainder, and should be placed over the divisor and added to your quotient. Subtract!! Subtract!! Subtract!! Answer: District School Board of Pasco County

  8. I do… Synthetic Division Set up: Opposite of the constant of the binomial goes in the box. Don’t forget zero place holders when setting this up. The leading coefficient drops down. Repeat the process to the end. Multiply diagonally. Add vertical columns. -2| 2 0 0 0 -32 _________________ 32 -4 8 -16 -16 0 The last digit is the remainder. A zero remainder tells us that X+2 was a factor. 2 -4 8 District School Board of Pasco County
