What roles do organisms play in a food web? • Producers • Create their own food using sun’s energy • Start energy flow • Consumers • Eat other organisms to get their energy • Herbivores, Omnivores, Carnivores • Decomposers • Break down dead plants, animals, and waste and return nutrients to the ecosystem

  4. What is a food chain? • Shows how living things get their energy • It is linear. • Using cards build a food web for Waikoloa community.

  5. What is a food web? • Show how energy moves through a community • Shows how organisms are interconnected in the community • Made up of food chains

  6. Notes on Drawing Food Webs • The arrow represents energy. • Arrow goes to the organism that does the eating because they get the energy. • Producers are base of the food web getting energy from the sun.
