Initial Research Results Related to Basic Skills • Success rate in Basic Skills Courses remained constant at approximately 59% (3 out of 5) • We are studying students who ignore the advisory and take transfer courses anyway • Preliminary results show that students can be successful in transfer level courses
RCCD’s Impact on the Economic Development of our Region is Significant • In 2007 the Office of Economic Development’s activities led to: • New Jobs Created 543 • People Trained 2,050 • Total Economic Impact $29,755,026
Transfer 48% 28%
Most faculty report they are NOT well prepared to discuss transfer
What might the Research Mean? • We need to know more about predictors of student success. • We need to identify the lessons that help students succeed and incorporate those lessons into more of our classes.
We are Restructuring • Decentralization is occurring • Benefits of a Common Curriculum are kept in mind • Cost saving due to economies of scale is considered • Strategic Planning and Operational Planning structures have been created for the short and long term consideration of resource use • There is a Budget Allocation Model, and it is under continual refinement • All of these efforts represent a paradigm shift in the way we do business
