HRSA Title VII Grants •  Academic Administrative Unit •  Tom Norris, MD, PI • Family Medicine-MEDEX Interprofessional Integration Grant: Focus on expansion by adding MEDEX to the Dept., with interprofessional team teaching and learning, as well as team care in PCMH clinics. • Residency • Judy Pauwels, MD, PI • Interprofessional Training in the Medical Home: Team Models for Care of Vulnerable Populations: Focus on experiential educational activities with FM residents, nursing students, PA students in underserved care.

HRSA Title VII Grants •  Network/Faculty Development •  Nancy Stevens, MD, MPH, PI • Training Faculty to Build Quality, Future-Oriented Family Medicine Residencies in the WWAMI Region: Focus on developing faculty for new FM residencies and enhancing scholarly work in existing residencies. •  Pre-Doctoral •  Thomas Greer, MD, MPH, PI • Preparing for Practice Innovation to Improve Primary Care for Medically Underserved Communities: Focus on using TRUST students to teach PCMH skills in community practice sites.

Departmental Finances:Big Decrease in State Funds • Permanent Funding Base Cut 22% • 7.9% “New Permanent Allocation” • Resulting in Permanent Funding Base cut of 14.1% • One year temporary funds for FY 12 of 5.2% • Net FY12 funding cut of 8.8% or $534,073, including the network pass-through cuts of $321,816 • Otherwise department finances are stable

Faculty: Changes • Retiring: Al Berg in early July—rehired at 25% • Leaving: Bill Neighbor to Hall Health—Oct. • Vacancies: • 2 positions that are part Med Student and part Residency • Hired—Jean Cawse-Lucas, MD Starts in Oct. • Offer Pending—To another Family Physician • 1 position that is Residency Faculty • 1 research position—Rural Health Research Center • 1 research position—Practice Based Research Network

  9. Birthday Celebrations • The Department is 40!! • Faculty, Staff, Resident, Student, Family Picnic • Network Program Directors • September 15 program and reception • WAFP Foundation and WAFP Officer Dinner

  10. Chair Search • The Search Committee has completed its work • Dean Ramsey has asked me to begin discussions with him regarding becoming long-term Chair of the Department • Discussions are underway
