Supplying Low Cost Refurbished Computer systems By Talin, Dalal, Jeff
Introduction We have been asked by the organization to research and present ways to refurbish old PC systems with the aim of reducing power consumption with minimal cost.
Current PC Energy Use • Currently the organization uses Pentium 4 PC systems that consume large amounts of power. Through our research we have documented the power consumption which we have tabled here
How to Refurbish to Reduce Power Consumption • We can replace key internal components to reduce power consumption and extend the life of older PC systems. The key we will replace are; the motherboard, the hard disk drive, the power supply and the CD/DVD Drive
Expected Energy Savings • The expected energy savings would be installing the new items that were chosen to be installed onto the PC and reduce the cost of energy usage and to be efficient with what has been chosen to be used for to save energy usage within minimal cost used.
Summary & Conclusions • We were asked to refurbish old PC’s and to research for some low cost energy usage items to be installed onto the systems and to find ways with minimal cost used for to reduce power consumption and energy usage for the organization.
Possible Other Solutions • The organization could also consider using alternate new low power PC systems that have been designed for minimal power consumption and portability such as the Alutia T2. • The Alutia T2 costs between $500-$700, has dual core CPU, wireless LAN, can render 720p video and it uses only 18 watts of power!
