Abstract • Data collection, large part of remote sensing • ASD needs to be recalibrated many times throughout the day • The operator of the ASD does not know when to recalibrate • Solving this problem: Analyze radiance data from Multi-Filter Rotating Shadow Band Radiometer (MFR-7) • When recalibration is needed, a transmitted signal will activate an alarm • Alarm notifies the ASD operator to recalibrate
Design Requirements • Power Specification: • Transmitter/Analyzer: 12V DC power supply directly from the YESDAS system • Receiver: 12V ( 4 button cell batteries) • Signal Processing: • The analyzer will receive the serial transfer digital signal directly from the RS-232 interface. The analyzer will send a signal to be transmitted if there is a changes of >= 50 W/m2/nm. • Performance: • The whole system will be able to transmit and receive up to 2 miles away. Error for the frequency of oscillation should be less than +/- 5%. The analyzer will be able to continuously analyze real-time data. 4. Electromagnetic Compatibility: Since this device involves transmission of a signal, the signal would adhere to part 15 of the FCC regulation particularly § 15.13 and § 15.17 5. Installation: The transmitter together with the analyzer will be easily mounted near the MFR-7 and high enough from the ground. The receiver will be portable. The user will be able to wear it on his/her hip similar to a pager.

Physical Packaging: The transmitter/Analyzer will not be larger than 6.5” high, 7.5” long and 5” deep weighing less than 5lb (2.76kg) and the receiver must be small and lightweight enough to beportable. In this case, it will not be larger than 3” high, 4” wide and 1.5” deep, which is approximately the size of a pager. 7. Durability: The analyzer/transmitter device will be able to withstand outside environmental conditions . This generally corresponds to a ± 50° C environmental temperature range. Also, both the analyzer/transmitter and the receiver/alarm will be able to withstand being dropped as may occur in typical use. 8. Cost: The cost of the Transmitter/Analyzer will be kept to a minimum. It will not exceed $150. While the receiver cost will not exceed $50 each.
