Day 1 • Expository – • Break down the word – what does it mean? • Expose? Explain? What does that mean? • Only the information – • ALL FACTS, NO OPINIONS • No pronouns - “I”, “we”, “you”
Day 1 Activity • Pick an object in the room. • You are only allowed to write FACTS about that object. 4 sentences for each paragraph. • Paragraph 1 • Physical description (size, shape, color etc) • Paragraph 2 • History of the object • Paragraph 3 • Effect on it’s surroundings
Physical Features of a Coffee Mug • My coffee mug is a cylinder. It has a matte black lid with a slit in it instead of a hole. The words WBEZ9.15CHICAGO are lettered on the side of it in bold. It holds 16 oz of coffee and is able to stop the heat from coming through. My coffee mug is plastic which makes it lighter than metal. It is white, so the coffee doesn’t wash out of it as well.
History of the Coffee Mug • I got this coffee mug because I wanted something to keep my coffee warm for a long time. It was a gift from a radio station, so I got it for free.
How it effects its surroundings • This coffee mug has stopped me from using my other coffee mugs because it is bigger and better. Also, it doesn’t fit in the cabinet very well so I have to leave it on the kitchen counter. This makes my house seem a bit more messy because things aren’t put away. It always leaves stains on the tables too if I don’t use a coaster. Plus, the slit in the top doesn’t have a cover, so if I drop it, it spills everywhere and gets coffee on everything.
