Yr 6 SATs 2017 (Monday 9th – Thursday 12th May) Organisation of the tests:
Key Guidelines: New format – no longer levels (now a standardised score). 2. There will be no higher level tests this year – harder questions will be included in the standard papers. 3. Calculators are not allowed in the Maths tests. 4. The reading booklet will not be linked by a theme (eg in the past – the environment). There will be 3 or 4 texts (in order of difficulty). The children will have one hour for the test. 5. Children are being tested on content from across KS2.
What we can do during the tests: In some cases we can prompt children, reassure them and keep them on task. 2. Following guidelines given, read questions to the children (not in the reading test). 3. Act as transcribe if the writing is really hard for the marker to read. 4. Keep all children as calm as possible!
Preparation 1. All tests will be done in a familiar classroom – this reduces stress and improves memory recall. 2. The children have been told they can bring a small good luck mascot to keep them focused throughout the papers, please support them with this. 3. Please ensure they have a good breakfast each day during SATs week (bacon and orange juice are supposed to be good brain food!) We will be offering toast and tea/juice from 8.30am for any children who wish to come in early. 4. Please make sure your child goes to bed early and has a good night’s sleep – the brain functions best when rested.
5. Please make sure your child arrives at school and on time – the tests are statutory so anyone who doesn’t take the tests won’t get a score and lateness adds to the stress levels. 6. Reassure your child that the most important thing is to try their best – SATs are a way to show off what they know. 7. Encourage your child to stay calm, not to worry and to try and enjoy the experience. 8. Bring in water – the brain works better when hydrated. 9. Support us and your child in their revision following the timetable which will be given. Books are available to buy from the academy, please fill in the order form on the letter (next week) and return to school.
SATs Revision Timetable 2017 Books can be bought through school – three books - maths, English, spelling and grammar for £4.50. Study books: Maths - £2.50 English - £2.50 SPAG - £2.25
