TOP-SEAL TM LIQUID SOIL SEALANT and STABILIZER PROMOTED and SOLD in MORE THAN 30 COUNTRIES
TOP-SEAL Liquid Soil Sealant and Stabilizer TOP-SEAL IS A GENERAL PURPOSE LIQUID SOIL ADDITIVE THAT POWERFULLY BINDS SOIL PARTICLES INTO A HARDENED AND MOISTURE RESISTANT MEMBRANE. WHEN USED PROPERLY IN SUFFICIENT QUANTITIES, TOP-SEAL WILL STABILIZE ROAD BASES, CONTROL DUST POLLUTION, AND PREVENT SOIL EROSION.
TOP-SEAL is USED in the CONSTRUCTION and RE-CONSTRUCTION OF: ØPAVED AND UNPAVED ROAD BASES ØPARKING LOTS ØAIRFIELDS ØOLD WORN OUT ASPHALT ROADS ØLANDFILLS ØEMBANKMENTS ØFOUNDATIONS FOR HOMES AND COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS
HOW DOES TOP-SEAL WORK? AFTER BEING EVENLY AND THOROUGHLY DISTRIBUTED INTO THE SOIL, AND WITH GOOD COMPACTION, TOP-SEAL WILL BEGIN THE PROCESS OF IRREVERSIBLY TRANSFORMING FROM A LIQUID TO A SOLID. THE PRODUCT CONTINUES TO INTERACT WITH THE SOIL AS A HARDENING AGENT THAT DRAMATICALLY INCREASES SOIL STRENGTH AND RESISTANCE TO MOISTURE.
THE MOST SUITABLE SOILS FOR TOP-SEAL ANY SOIL THAT CAN BE COMPACTED IS SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT WITH TOP-SEAL. SOIL WITH AT LEAST 15 PERCENT OR MORE FINES IS BEST; SANDY OR GRANULAR TYPES OF SOIL ARE LESS SUITABLE AND WILL OFTEN REQUIRE ADDITIONAL AMOUNTS OF PRODUCT FOR PROPER PERFORMANCE.
BASE STABILIZATION TOP-SEAL IS SIMPLY ADDED TO WATER IN THE WATER TRUCK, AND DISTRIBUTED INTO A ROAD BASE DURING ROUTINE CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES. WHEN CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETED, THE POWERFUL BINDING AGENTS OF THE PRODUCT WILL PRODUCE THE FOLLOWING RESULTS: ØVASTLY SUPERIOR ROAD BASE STABILITY. ØA TREMENDOUS INCREASE IN STRENGTH AND A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF PERMEABILITY. ØLIFE EXPECTANCY OF PAVED AND UNPAVED ROADS WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY EXTENDED.
COLD IN-PLACE RECYCLING OF OLD ASPHALT ROADS THE COMBINATION OF TOP-SEAL AND COLD IN-PLACE RECYCLING OF OLD ASPHALT ROADS IS ONE OF THE BEST POSSIBLE USES OF THE PRODUCT. THE INFUSION OF TOP-SEAL INTO AN OLD ROAD BASE IN WHICH THE ASPHALT AND THE OLD BASE MATERIALS ARE BEING PULVERIZED AND MIXED TOGETHER WILL RESULT IN A NEW ROAD BASE THAT WILL BE VASTLY SUPERIOR OVER THE PREVIOUS BASE.
DUST POLLUTION CONTROL ROADS, PARKING LOTS, AND OPEN FIELDS WILL REMAIN RELATIVELY DUST FREE WHEN TREATED AND MAINTAINED WITH TOP-SEAL. TOP-SEAL WILL TIGHTLY CEMENT DUST PARTICLES TOGETHER, THEREBY RENDERING THEM VIRTUALLY INCAPABLE OF BECOMING AIR BORNE. LIFE IN SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES IS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED AS A RESULT OF DRAMATIC REDUCTIONS IN AIR POLUTANTS. ALL KNOWN ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS CAN BE MET OR EXCEEDED BY USING TOP-SEAL FOR CONTROLLING DUST POLLUTION.
SOIL EROSION CONTROL INDEPENDENT LAB TESTING HAS REVEALED THAT TOP-SEAL SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEEDS U.S. ENVIR-ONMENTAL STANDARDS FOR PERMEABILITY. HIGHER CONCENTRATIONS OF TOP-SEAL IN THE SOIL ARE DIRECTLY PROPORTIONATE TO THE AMOUNT OF REDUCTION OF PERMEABILITY. THE PRODUCT IS AN EXCELLENT DEFENSE AGAINST THE INVASION OF MOISTURE. TOP-SEAL CAN CREATE A TREMENDOUS SAVINGS IN COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH LANDFILL MANAGEMENT, CONSTRUCTION OF EMBANKMENTS, AND WATER RETENTION FOR PONDS

PROCEDURES FOR USING TOP-SEAL THERE ARE NO SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR HANDLING PROCEDURES REQUIRED FOR TOP-SEAL. THE PRODUCT IS EASILY DISTRIBUTED INTO THE SOIL WITH ROUTINE CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT. TOP-SEAL IS SIMPLY ADDED TO THE WATER IN A WATER TRUCK, AND APPLIED TO THE SOIL AS A PART OF THE ROUTINE CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS. THERE ARE TYPICALLY THREE TYPES OF EQUIPMENT THAT ARE USED DURING OPERATIONS WITH TOP-SEAL:
MOTOR GRADER SCARIFYING TEETH IN THE FRONT OF THE MOTOR GRADER ARE USED TO LOOSEN THE SOIL PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF TOP-SEAL
WATER TRUCK APPLYING TOP-SEAL FROM A WATER TRUCK TRANSFERRING TOP-SEAL FROM A 330 GALLON TOTE TO A WATER TRUCK
COMPACTOR STEEL DRUM COMPACTOR PNEUMATIC ROLLER (RUBBER TIRE COMPACTOR)
PROCEDURES . . . (Continued) The procedures for application of TOP-SEAL per each 4 to 6 inches (or 10 to 15 centimeters) of base stabilization is very basic and can be accomplished in several easy steps. STEP I Preparation– Scarify the base to the appropriate depth. 1st Application of TOP-SEAL – Apply TOP-SEAL evenly over the top and allow it to soak into the scarified soil. Initial Compaction – Pneumatic roller recommended. (Top-Seal will not stick to the rubber tires.)
PROCEDURES . . . (Continued) STEP II 2nd Application of TOP-SEAL – Apply TOP-SEAL again, and allow it to thoroughly soak into the lightly compacted base. This procedure will take longer as a result of the presence of the previous application. This application will remain closer to the upper base, and will serve as a primer for the final application. Compaction – Compact again, preferably with a pneumatic roller.
PROCEDURES . . . (Continued) STEP III Final Application of TOP-SEAL – This will serve as a sealant and, for roads that will remain unpaved, it will compensate for lack of a wearing surface. Final Compaction – Conduct final compaction as specified for maximum proctor. A steel drum compactor is recommended for a smoother and tighter finish. It is preferable to wait at least 30 minutes after TOP-SEAL has soaked into the base prior to using a steel drum compactor. Otherwise, the treated soil may stick to the steel drum and this will prevent the base from being properly compacted.
PRECAUTIONS DO NOT INSTALL TOP-SEAL DURING RAIN OR WHEN THE SOIL IS EXCESSIVELY WET DO NOT INSTALL TOP-SEAL DURING FREEZING TEMPERATURES DO NOT ALLOW TOP-SEAL TO BE SPRAYED ONTO TRAFFIC. IMMEDIATE WASHING OF EXPOSED VEHICLES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO PREVENT PERMANENT BINDING WITH TOP-SEAL
HOW LONG WILL A PAVED ROAD LAST WITH TOP-SEAL? THE PRESENCE OF TOP-SEAL IN THE BASE OF A PAVED ROAD WILL HELP ENSURE THAT THE BASE REMAINS STRONG AND MOISTURE RESISTANT WELL BEYOND THE NORMALLY EXPECTED LIFE OF THE ROAD. TOP-SEAL PAYS FOR ITSELF ON REDUCTION OF INITIAL PAVEMENT COSTS, AND IN TERMS OF SAVINGS ON MAINTENANCE AND RECONSTRUCTION COSTS.
HOW LONG WILL AN UNPAVED ROAD LAST WITH TOP-SEAL? WITH AN INITIAL APPLICATION AND WITH OCCASIONAL SERVICE TREATMENTS, AN UNPAVED ROAD STABILIZED WITH TOP-SEAL CAN BE PERMANENTLY MAINTAINED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE SERVICE TREATMENTS ARE ADMINISTERED ON AN “AS-NEEDED” BASIS, AND ARE SIGNIFICANTLY LESS EXPENSIVE THAN DAILY WATER TRUCK OPERATIONS AND CONSTANT REPAIRS. THE SAVINGS EARNED FROM USING TOP-SEAL ON UNPAVED ROADS CAN BE INVESTED INTO NEW PROGRAMS FOR PAVING THE SAME ROADS. TOP-SEAL PAYS FOR ITSELF.
EXTREMELY CHALLENGING CONDITIONS TOP-SEAL WAS “BATTLE TESTED” WITH A DAILY EXPOSURE TO THE EXTREMES OF SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS AND CONSTANT CONVOYS OF TANKS AND OTHER HEAVY ARMORED VEHICLES AT A MILITARY INSTALLATION IN CENTRAL TEXAS. THE FOLLOWING SLIDES WILL SHOW HOW WELL TOP-SEAL CAN BE EXPECTED TO PERFORM IN AN EXTREMELY CHALLENGING ENVIRNONMENT. THE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN APPROXIMATELY SIX WEEKS AFTER AN INITIAL APPLICATION AND AFTER ENCOUNTERING MANY DAYS OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITIES.
