MS203 Instructional Goal: Using fundamental tactical concepts, develop and communicate a tactical plan at the squad/platoon level • Performance Objectives: • Apply troop leading procedures at the squad level • Apply fundamentals of offensive and defensive operations at the squad level
Course Description • -Operational environment • -You are a squad leader in a light infantry company that will conduct combat operations on the grounds of West Point. • You will plan an air assault to seize key terrain • You will plan a defense to block an enemy mounted avenue of approach • You will plan an urban attack to seize an enemy headquarters • Bottom line: you will plan squad level offensive and defensive operations and produce two written OPORDs

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND • JUL-AUG 2004 – US launches Operation HIGHLAND WARRIOR. TF HIGHLANDER successfully destroys PLA and Atlantican Advisors in AO BUCKNER. US forces are well received due to “humane” execution of combat operations. PLA disperses into urban areas vic Highland Falls and West Point. DIABLO elements remain primary threat with remnants of PLA forces • SEP-DEC 2004 – West Point and Highland Falls were relatively untouched by the war. DIABLO, PLA and foreign fighters assumed control of West Point. West Point is a sacred city to Cortinian and Atlanticans. Battle Monument is a holy shrine as it commemorates the dead from the 1680 battle with Spanish Conquistadores • DEC 2004 – TF HIGHLANDER (brigade) receives order to conduct combat operations in AO WEST POINT.
Current Situation • You are in Cortina, AO BUCKNER • You are the squad leader of 1st squad, 1st platoon, A Company, 3rd Battalion, 27th Infantry (1/1/A/3-27 IN) • Your platoon leader told you (WARNING ORDER) that your platoon would be conducting an air assault to seize a lodgment (FOB) in West Point within the next several days • More to follow…..
