UNIVERSITY OF FOOD TECHNOLOGIES PLOVDIV
The University of Food Technologies (UFT) in Plovdiv has a rich history spanning sixty years, and remarkable traditions. It is one of Bulgaria’s most important centres in the area of food science and technology, the only one of its type on the Balkan Peninsula. The UFT now offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs in the technology, engineering and economics of food, flavour and biotechnological industries. Prof. Kolyo Dinkov, DSc (Eng) RECTOR
The University of Food Technologies was established as Higher Institute of Food and Flavor Industries (HIFFI) in1953. In 2003, by decision of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, the HIFFI was transformed into University of Food Technologies-Plovdiv (UFT).
The UFT has four educational buildings with a total area of 17 000 m² which includes: a ceremonial hall with 450 seats, three auditorium halls with 300 seats each, lecture theatres, seminar and 12 computer halls and more than 50 training laboratories. The Central Library holds a fund of over 150 000 volumes and has a 98-seat reading hall.
The University of Food Technologies has five student dorms with 1500 beds and a training restaurant
UFT has a modern sports center in Plovdiv which includes an in-door swimming pool, sport games halls, tennis courts and a sports and health camp on the banks of the Batak Lake in the Rodopi mountains
Located in the main building is a self-service training restaurant offering lunch to students and professors
The UFT is proud to be associated with the Paldin Student Dance Group with its roots stretching back to 1957
The University cooperates with many foreign universities and participates actively in international research programs and student exchange abroad
UFT-Plovdiv gladly welcomes foreign students who apply for enrollment in the wide variety of university specialties
The training is carried out mainly in Bulgarian, therefore a preparatory one-year Bulgarian or English language course is provided for foreign students
Courses in some Bachelor’s and Master’s programs are taught entirely in French: • Fermentation Products Technology or English: • Tourism • Computer Systems • Technologies and Industrial Management
Prospective international students should submit the following documents: • Application form containing a short CV and the specialties the applicant has chosen; • A copy of the Secondary/High school Diploma and the Supplement with the grades obtained in full-time training; • A Certificate issued by the competent authorities proving the applicant’s right to continue his/her education at higher schools of the country in which he/she has acquired his/her high education and abroad; • An Academic Transcript for applicants applying for part-time training;
A copy of the higher education Diploma (certificate) for a degree corresponding to the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree - for the applicants for Master’s degree courses; • A Bulgarian language proficiency Certificate issued by a higher education institution in Bulgaria – for the applicants who will not attend the preparatory language and specialized training courses; • A Medical Certificate issued no earlier than one month prior to the application date and certified by the respective authority in the applicant’s home country • A copy of the applicant’s Passport/Citizenship Certificate with his/her first name, middle and last name in Latin, date and place of birth • Two photos Deadline for submission of applications to the UFT: October 1st
Annual academic fees for foreign students Bachelor’s: full-time: 3000 EUR, part-time training: 2150 EUR; Master’s: full-time training and part-time training: 3000 EUR; Master’s after Bachelor’s if in a different specialty: full-time: 3000 EUR, part-time training: 2150 EUR; PhD and specialized training: full-time training: 3500 EUR; part-time training: 1750 EUR One-year Bulgarian or English Language Course: 2500 EUR
The duration of training in a given specialty of the Bachelor's degree is 4 academic years (full-time and part-time training); for Master's degree is 1 academic year in case the Bachelor's degree has been obtained in the same specialty; and 2 academic years in case the Bachelor's degree has been obtained in a different specialty. The training for the Doctor’s degree (PhD) is 3 academic years (full-time) and 4 academic years (part-time)
