  2. Types of UAE Birds Houbara Asian Houbara North African Houbara Houbara: The Houbara bustard was previously considered as a single species with separate populations. However, studies revealed that the populations in Asia and North Africa were distinct species based on a hereditary, morphological and geographical and behavioral basis. In 2014 this distinction was officially recognised and the species taxonomy was changed on the IUCN Red List.

  3. The Asian Houbara: (Chlamydotis macqueenii) The Asian Houbara population extends from northeast Asia (Mongolia and China) across central Asia, the Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula to reach the Sinai desert. After the breeding spring season in Central Asia, some Asian Houbara groups migrate southward to spend winter in warmer regions (the Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan, and nearby Southwest Asia). In the early spring, these groups return to their breeding habitats in China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and other north-eastern provinces. Some of the Asian Houbara groups live and breed in the southern part of their range areas, particularly in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen and parts of Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

  4. The North African Houbara (Chlamydotis undulata) The range area of the North African Houbara extends from North Africa to the Nile River Valley in Egypt. 80% of the population is settled in Morocco and Algeria. Unlike Asian Houbara, birds of this species do not migrate, and are limited to movements in their natural areas. Who We Are: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) is a non-profit organisation supported by the Government of Abu Dhabi. It is one of the world's largest species conservation projects, overseeing an international network of specialised Houbara breeding centers to support and increase wild populations of the bird in its natural habitats across entire species range.
