IPY IMPORTANCE AND INTEGRATION For your information, the PIs are maintaining the visibility of the project at venues important to the International Polar Year. Brigham-Grette (along with Tom Johnson, Univ of Minnesota-Duluth) will chair a Union Session U04: "Quaternary Climate Records from the Continents: Comparisons with Their Marine and Polar Cousins" being convened at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting on 10-14 December 2007 in San Francisco, California. We were allotted 2 oral sessions (a full morning) and an afternoon poster session. The invited speakers will focus on integration in the context of Earth systems and modeling. International Geological Congress (IGC), 6-14 Aug. Oslo, Norway; Special Session “Developing bi-polar connections over millennia” with Brigham-Grette and Melles being Co-Conveners along with Ross Powell and Tim Naish of ANDRILL and Kate Moran and Jan Bachman of the ACEX- Lomonosov Ridge. Moreover, we are planning a first IPY workshop before the IGC in Oslo concerning bipolar connections as part of the IPYBIPOMAC/ PAGES initiative. ACE of SCAR has already committed $5,000 toward the workshop and we have a possible venue in Oslo. Additional funding will be sought. SCAR/IASC Open Science Conference, July 6-12, 2008 St. Petersburg, Russia; Special Session 4.6 “Scientific Deep Drilling” with Martin Melles and Julie Brigham-Grette being Co-Conveners.
