Trust What You Already Know... • With a partner, create a mindmap (15 mins): • Level 1: Write “Canadian Industries” • Level 2: Add 5 major Canadian industries to your mindmap (can be natural, manufacturing, service etc.) • Level 3: Write what each industry produces (its products) • Level 4: List any major challenges this industry is facing

  3. Time to think... Which of Canada’s industries & resources do you think has the most important uses?

  4. Time to think... • What CRITERIA did you use to determine importance? • Ex. The forestry industry is important to Canada because... • Big idea: People have different points of view about the value of different industries and their use of resources

  5. Canadian Industry – What does it do? • Industry: economic activity that takes raw materials and makes them into goods and/or a type of commercial activity (ex. Tourist industry) • Economy: The wealth and resources of a country or region. • Natural Resources: Materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain.
