The South West Wales e-Learning Consortium • A consortium of all FE & HE institutions in the region • Development and testing of e-learning materials and pedagogic models • Coleg Sir Gâr, Swansea College, Neath/Port Talbot College, Pembrokeshire College, Gorseinon College • Swansea Institute of Higher Education, University of Wales, Swansea, University of Wales, Lampeter, University of Wales Aberystwyth, Trinity College Carmarthen JISC SWaNI Programme

Materials Development Responsibilities • The priority skills needs identified were IT skills, customer care, health and safety, e-commerce and the Welsh language • IT Skills: Coleg Sir Gâr, Gorseinon, Neath/Port Talbot & Pembrokeshire • E-commerce: Swansea Institute & UW Swansea • Health & Safety: Swansea College • Customer Care: Neath Port Talbot & Coleg Sir Gâr • Welsh Language: Trinity & Lampeter JISC SWaNI Programme

Interoperabilty: The Objectives • To test content interoperability between all consortium materials and all VLEs • To work with vendors to identify and action opportunities to improve interoperability • To demonstrate the re-use of interoperable learning objects stored in a digital repository • To evaluate the current interoperability between VLEs and student record systems of participating colleges JISC SWaNI Programme

  7. Interoperability: the project plan • Initial testing of content transfer between VLEs • Review of IMS content packaging compliance of materials • Testing the use of content management and storage systems, including a digital repository, which ensure packages meet IMS and SCORM standards • Testing of each VLEs capacity to access and use interoperable learning objects developed by the consortium • Evaluate the capacity of VLEs to exchange student data with MIS software in the partner colleges • Report on outcomes, recommendations and future work JISC SWaNI Programme
