Math Vocabulary Coordinate plane Formed by two intersecting lines (named X and Y) Origin The middle/center of the coordinate, also known as (0, 0) [the START point when graphing] Axis The intersecting lines that form a coordinate plane Ordered pair A given point based on a specific “coordinate” by order of x and y Quadrant Sections of the graph

  3. Coordinate Plane When graphing points… *always recognize Quadrant *graph left  righton x-axis THEN up/down [following] y-axis (alphabetical order!! x before y)

  4. Coordinate Plane Four sections: Quadrant I *upper right of graph *points (+x, +y) Ex. (3, 5)

  5. Coordinate Plane Four sections: Quadrant II *upper left of graph *points (-x, +y) Ex. (-2, 4)

  6. Coordinate Plane Four sections: Quadrant III *lower left of graph *points (-x, -y) Ex. (-5, -2)

  7. Coordinate Plane Four sections: Quadrant IV *lower right of graph *points (+x, -y) Ex. (3, -1)
