China was ahead of the world for centuries in their advances in science, technology, astronomy and math. • A few important Chinese inventions are paper, the magnetic compass, printing, porcelain, silk, and gunpowder.
People • China has more people than any other. Around 1/3rd of its population lives in cities with the remaining 2/3rd living in the country.
Art has a long and important history in China. • The Chinese were some of the first to use silk, jade, bronze, wood, and paper in art making. • Calligraphy was also invented in China.
Calligraphy The art of writing is a visual art form. Has been revered as a fine art long before painting.
