Understanding Post-Traumatic Seizures: Risks and Classification

Post-Traumatic Seizure (PTS) is a risk factor for Post-Traumatic Epilepsy (PTE), a chronic condition where seizures occur after a severe brain injury. Seizures following a Traumatic Brain Injury result from various factors including oxygen depletion, excitatory neurotransmitters, altered brain metabolism, and increased pressure. Approximately 5-7% of individuals with TBIs develop seizures. This classification sheds light on the complexities of PTS and PTE.
