Whaaa..? • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that develops after experiencing any event which results in physical or psychological trauma. PTSD may occur after the threat of death to oneself or others, or to ones own physical, sexual, psychological integrity.
Symptoms • · Reoccurring flashbacks or dreams of traumatic experience • · Difficulty falling asleep • · Difficulty staying asleep • · Unable to remember traumatic experience • · Lost interest in activities that were enjoyable in the past • · Emotions: • -Anger • -Guilt • -Depression • -Worry
Treatment Options • Psychotherapeutic Interventions: -it is basic counseling • Cognitive behavioral therapy: - standard care • Exposure therapy: -Real-life exposure to trauma reminders. • Medicinal Marijuana -(Self explanatory)
Veterans and PTSD • Military veterans that have come back from battle are the most common subjects of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. The National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study (NVVRS) tracks the healing process of Vietnam veterans with PTSD. A survey conducted by the NVVRS in the mid 1980’s showed 15.2% of male Vietnam veterans experienced PTSD, and 30% of heavy combat soldiers show signs as well. The average of the two numbers tells us that approximately 22% of war veterans suffer from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
