  2. INTRODUCTION – Planning and Lands Section of Community and Government Services. Planning and Lands Section has been providing Planning and Lands Services for over 40 years. Services include: Mapping, Lands Administration, Property Assessment and Planning.

Projects / New Initiatives Planning – Mapping Projects World View -1 Satellite Orthorectified Images 2008/09 Kugluktuk Cambridge Bay Rankin Inlet Cape Dorset Igloolik Resolute Bay Geo Eye -1 Satellite Orthorectified Images 2009/10 Taloyoak Chesterfield Inlet Arviat Whale Cove –NRCAN Grise Fiord Hall Beach Gjoa Haven Iqaluit - NRCAN World View -2 Orthorectified Images 2010/11 Qikiqtarjuaq Sanikiluaq Pond Inlet Repulse Bay Baker Lake Pangnirtung Kugaaruk Kimmirut Clyde River Coral Harbour Climate Project provided contacts which enable the Territorial and Federal Government to provide better services to the communities.

  6. Projects / New Initiatives SURVEY PROJECTS - SINED – Program Strategic Investment in Northern Economic Development SINED 1 Project 2008/09 – Survey 1,744 Lots in 17 Communities. SINED 2 Project 2010/11 –Approved to survey 600 lots in 9 Communities. - Approval Land Management System.

Projects / Climate Change Nunavut Community Planners have always taken into consideration the Impacts of Climate Change with regards to Community Planning such as: (if data were available) Shoreline Erosion Geotechnical Issues Drainage Issues Watershed Issues Snow Drifting Issues The Climate Change Project, however has brought attention to these issues and has enabled CGS/Municipalities to obtain more studies/data on the above issues.

  9. Projects / Climate Change With CGS being involved in this Project, we can ensure that relevant data can be incorporated into the community plans. The following Slides identify the Climate Change Projects that CGS has participated in.

  10. Projects / Climate Change Planning – Mapping and Climate Change Projects WATERSHED STUDIES Since 2005 CGS have been working on mapping the Watershed Boundaries for all 24 communities. In 2009, we were able to complete the project. NEW PROJECT :Bathymetry and watershed mapping techniques NRCAN/INAC/GN/Nunavut Research Institute (NRI).

Projects / Climate Change Planning – Mapping and Climate Change Projects TERRAIN ANALYSIS Obtained funding from INAC through Climate Change Program to conduct Terrain Analysis Study for the following communities: Cambridge Bay, Chesterfield Inlet, Rankin Inlet, Baker Lake, Hall Beach, Sanikiluaq, Gjoa Haven, Coral Harbour, Kugaaruk, Taloyoak, Repulse Bay, Cape Dorset, Kimmirut and Pond Inlet. NRCAN previously conducted studies under the INAC Climate Change Program for Kugluktuk, Arviat, Whale Cove, Clyde River and Pangnirtung Other studies have been completed for Qikiqtarjuaq and Arctic Bay.

Projects / Climate Change Planning – Mapping and Climate Change Projects Previously CGS/MACA had conducted Geotechnical Studies for: Repulse Bay Kugluktuk Clyde River Pond Inlet Baker Lake Rankin Inlet We also have numerous Granular Reports and geotechnical reports for site specific Projects.

  16. Projects / Climate Change Planning – Climate Change Projects Community and Government Services Planners were also involved with the Climate Change Adaptation Plans which were prepared by CIP.

  17. Projects / Climate Change Planning – Climate Change Projects CGS Planners participated in the meetings during the CIP planner’s community visits. CGS Planners were able to provide input but most importantly were able to hear the concerns of the communities on climate change
