ELG 4392 ELECTRICAL DESIGN PROJECT
PROJECT TITLE: Remote Control for Appliances via Telephone lines or Mobile (Remote Phone) Presented By: Dream Team Team members: Bashar Fawal Frederic Giroux Charles Gerard Xiaopeng Xin Robert Godbout
Scope • The main goal of this project was to fully design and implement the hardware and software required to control any home appliance or electronic device via the telephone line. • We are now able to call via cell phone or remote computer to our phone box, and enter a password to access the control menu. After the correct password is entered, we are able to control and verify the output states with digital voice confirmation. We are also able to call in and verify the state of an output. • Example: Home security system • This can be connected to an auto-dialer and notify you immediately.
Requirements This project consist of 2 major parts: • Hardware: This part consist mainly of designing integrated circuits that we will connect to the telephone system. • Ring detection circuit • On / Off hook circuit • Protection circuit • DTMF (dual tone multiple frequency) chip • UP2 board • MAX • FLEX • Digital voice feedback • RF tx/rx
Requirements • Software: The software part was accomplished using Quartus II with programming done on the Max and Flex chip. Block diagrams and verilog code was used to accomplish the task of communicating between the external electronic components mentioned and the microprocessor.
Overall success /short falls • The project went as planed, and almost on schedule • We had small issues trying to obtain the DTMF chip • We tried to construct the on/off hook circuit mechanically but later decided to implement it electronically. • Transfer from MAX+plus II Quartus II • Transfer from MAX FLEX • We added a web interface which wasn’t part of our original design.
