  15. saunter saunter (v.): to walk at a slow, leisurely pace Instead of hurrying from class to class, David was known to saunter through the hallways.

  16. gaudy gaudy (adj.): not in good taste; showy or tacky Jill’s outfit on the first day of school looked a bit gaudy. She wore hot pink shorts and a red shirt, as well as purple tennis shoes.

  17. asphalt asphalt (n.): a mixture that is used for paving roads, parking lots, etc. I would love to know how much new asphalt has been used during the construction projects of Interstate 64.

  18. rarity rarity (n.): something that you don’t see happen very often Last week I saw a 6th grader who was walking barefoot in the hallway. Now that’s a rarity.

  19. antsy antsy (adj.): moving around uncontrollably; fidgety The toddler was so antsy at the movies that his mother took him out of the theatre because he couldn’t sit still.

  20. procrastinate procrastinate (v.): to put off until later; to wait until the last minute I would have gotten more sleep last night, but I procrastinated with my homework and waited until 9:00 P.M. to start it.

  21. disregard disregard (v.): to ignore; to not pay attention to Our teacher said that we could disregard the note on the chalkboard about the upcoming test because our class had already taken it.

  22. pompous pompous (adj.) overconfident; arrogant It’s hard to be around Jeff’s brother because he’s so pompous. He thinks that every girl in the school likes him.

  23. backtrack backtrack (v.): to go back over a course or path When Jessi couldn’t find her silent reading book, she backtracked and eventually found it in her 1st hour class.

  24. beeline beeline (n.) a fast, straight course When the bell rang at 1:00, the students made a beeline for the buses.

  25. willpower willpower (n.): the strength to carry out a plan or wishes Kyle’s dad doesn’t have much willpower when it comes to staying on a diet. He can’t make it one day without cheating!

  26. “come apart at the seams” “come apart at the seams” (idiom) to become so upset that all self- control is gone When Kelsey’s dad found out that she snuck out of the house after curfew, he came apart at the seams.
