Eating an apple • The food goes in the mouth; it is chewed into little pieces by the teeth and mixed with saliva. • Apple s are popular fruit and they are also healthy they are so delicious and yummy Ilove eating them. • We are going into the swallowing now.
Swallowing • The food is swallowed. It travels down the food pipe to the stomach. • The apple goes down our food pipe with water, germs and saliva. • Then we go to the stomach.
Stomach • In the stomach the food is mixed with lots of digestive juices. This breaks the food down into tiny little pieces that can be taken into the body. • When you have a pain you drink some water and it may get better. • You are sitting on the chair at lunch time enjoying you lovely sandwich that mum or dad made and it goes into your stomach.
Small Intestine • The tiny pieces of food pass into the small intestine. Here all the good bits (healthy sugars, nutrients, minerals, some fats etc) are taken into the body. • In the last 20 years we have increased sugar. • Now off to the large intestine.
Large intestine • The waste products and water pass into the large intestine, here all the water needed is taken into the body. • This article is primarily about the human gut, though the information about its processes are directly applicable to most mammals. • We are going into the waste part now.
Waste • What bits are left after the large intestine are waste products. This leaves the body when we go to the toilet. • The waste that was in our body now leaves our body and goes down the toilet.
