Michael Jordan “The Sports Hero”
In 1984, he left UNC after his junior year to play in the NBA when the Chicago Bulls drafted him. • He was the third pick of the first round. • In 1985, he was named rookie of the year. • In 1991 Michael Jordan won his first of six NBA championships. • The next year he won a gold medal in the Barcelona Olympics. • During the off season, he returned to UNC to finish his Bachelor of Arts degree. • In 1993, Jordan's father was murdered during a robbery, and this tragic event partially led to Jordan's temporary retirement from basketball • He tried baseball, which he stuck with until 1995 when he returned to the NBA. • He played a part in the movie "Space Jam" during the off season of his first year back in the NBA. • In 1996, Jordan won his fourth championship and fourth NBA Finals MVP Trophy on Father's Day, which, to him, was a tribute to his own father. • In 1997 Jordan won another back-to-back championship. • Finally, to end his NBA career, he won a sixth NBA championship on a last second shot against the Utah Jazz in 1998. • He played guard for the Chicago Bulls for 13 seasons. • During that time, he won many awards. • Won two slam-dunk championships, 11 scoring championships and fourteen various Most Valuable Player awards
Ever since I was a little girl, Space Jam has been one of my all time favorite movies. Which has practically all of my favorite Looney Tune characters such as Taz, Silvester, Tweety, Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and many more. The film was released theatrically by Warner Bros. Family, on November 15 in 1996. It was produced by Ivan Reitman, and directed by Joe Pytka (live-action), Tony Cervone, and Bruce W. Smith (animation). http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&biw=1003&bih=567&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=space+jam+the+movie&aq=0&aqi=g2&aql=&oq=space+jam+the+m&gs_rfai=
Summary After winning the third championship with the Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan announces his retirement from basketball and declares his intention to play baseball. Meanwhile, deep in space, Swackhammer, owner of the amusement park planet Moron Mountain is desperate to get new attractions. Therefore he decides that the Looney Tune characters would be perfect. He sends his diminutive underlings to get them to him, whether Bugs Bunny & Co. want to go or not. Well armed for their size, Bugs Bunny is forced to trick them into agreeing to a competition to determine their freedom. Taking advantage of their puny and stubby legged foes, the gang selects basketball for the surest chance of winning. However, the Nerdlucks turn the tables and use their strange powers to steal the talent of five NBA stars such as Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, and Shawn Bradley, which they'll ultimately transform themselves into the tallest and muscular creatures, known as the Monstars. In desperation, Bugs Bunny calls on the aid of Michael Jordan, the Babe Ruth of Basketball, to help them have a chance at winning their freedom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFwXDN3sI8g
Although I am a San Antonio Spurs fan, I have always been a Michael Jordan’s fan, not only because he is a legendary athlete, but because he has contributed to many organizations, and is the sponsor for the Iowa Lifegift Coalition on Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness. And just like in the movie, he decides to help Bugs Bunny and his friends; in real life, he contributes to help others who are in need of an organ transplantation in order to have a second chance in life.
A Message from Michael Jordan (1996 Brochure) “Each year, thousands of people die while waiting for the organ or tissue transplants needed to save their lives. Every 18 minutes, another name is added to the list of Americans waiting for life-saving transplants. Many of these lives could be saved if more people became organ and tissue donors. That's why I'm doing my part to help in this important effort. Now it's your turn. As a donor, you could save or improve the quality of life for more than 50 others who suffer from organ failure, bone defects, burns or blindness. Please make the decision to become an organ and tissue donor. It's the right thing to do. Make sure you discuss your decision with your family so that they know and will honor your wishes. Remember: Share your life. Share your decision.” Michael Jordan
New names are added to the national waiting • list every 18 minutes • Each day approximately 10-19 people lose • their lives • Average of 5,000 donors per year • As of September 24, 2010 there are 108,725 • waiting list candidates • http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&biw=1020&bih=567&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=ticking+clock&aq=0&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=ticking&gs_rfai=
Each day many organs and tissues are needed such as • Heart Lungs Liver Kidneys Pancreas • Corneas Bone Skin Heart valves Blood vessels • http://healthmad.com/medicine/weird-organ-transplants-worth-trying-part-one/
Organ donation benefits both the donor ‘s family and the recipients • The family can receive comfort and peace knowing that the organ of the person who just died ,will help a person be able to see, breath etc., but most importantly, live. • For those receiving organs, these transplants can mean a second chance of life. • Imagine the impact of someone you knew unexpectedly dying and being able to meet the person who received their heart. • One donor can save up to 8 lives and enhance the lives of 50 others • Organ donation gives a life and costs nothing • http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&biw=1020&bih=567&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=babies&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
So as you can see, not only am I a fan of Michael Jordan as an athlete, or as an actor of my favorite movie; but I am an admirer of his good contributions to help others be able to have a second chance in life. http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&biw=1020&bih=567&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=michael+jordan+safe+a+life&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
