  1. Miguel the tireless chef, his father, Barak and their Dutch neighbour. We celebrated New Year’s Eve at the Piza family’s home, with a great BBQ dinner.

  2. Their Chilean friends arrived with their lovely kids, Karina and David.

Hahgoot enjoyed the games and the food but when the fireworks started she made a camp on Adrian’s bed (he sleeps on top of a bunk bed) with the weighted vest, earphones and a book and refused to get down till it was way past midnight. The other kids enjoyed a walk up the hill in the dark to see the Penrith fireworks and then made their own happy racket with popping devices and fire crackers of sorts...

  4. Barak got very drunk (and was happy to chat with anyone...) so he couldn’t drive us home, and Hanna had to do it instead, and then walk back home (luckily they live just a few streets away). I got very angry with him for that, it was quite embarrassing.
