Straw Planes. Mrs. Hicks’ 2 nd Grade October 2003. Flight Testers. After reading about the Wright Brothers, we decided to become flight testers ourselves, so we created straw planes. Creation. We made our planes with a straw, 1 4” x ½”strip of paper, 1 5” x ¾” strip of paper and tape.

  1. Straw Planes Mrs. Hicks’ 2nd Grade October 2003

  2. Flight Testers After reading about the Wright Brothers, we decided to become flight testers ourselves, so we created straw planes.

  3. Creation We made our planes with a straw, 1 4” x ½”strip of paper, 1 5” x ¾” strip of paper and tape.

  4. Testing We took our planes to the gym to test how they fly.

  5. Recording As good scientists we recorded our data after flying our planes.

  6. Adjusting Now we can adjust the wings to try for a longer flight on our next try.

  7. Final Try We all lined up & took turns for one final flight.

  8. Publishing Data We finally published our data using the paint program in the computer lab.

  9. Flight Scientists We all learned a lot about flight from using our straw planes. Thanks Wilbur & Orville Wright!!
