A Mechanical Toy Design Learning Opportunities: To introduce pupils to basic mechanisms / mechanical movement – cams / eccentricity; To develop basic design and manufacturing skills; Design Appreciation: to understand that changes could be made to the design and to develop an awareness of the constraints when manufacturing. To develop an understanding of a range of manufacture processes; To introduce basic engineering concepts – fiction, Interference / clearance-fit, eccentricity, etc. Activity Description: Theory Mechanical Systems: : The pupils study mechanisms for approximately 3 x 35min periods; Manufacture: To manufacture a number of the models parts from set working drawings; Mechanisms
